Sprawl – defined as dispersed, auto-dependent development outside compact urban and village centers, along highways and in rural countryside – increases driving, creates aesthetic and environmental problems and isolates people. Sprawl was a major issue in the Connecticut Legislature this past year and promises to be a front-burner topic in the 2006 gubernatorial election.
